by Flower & Twine – Glastonbury, CT Wedding Florist
There are weddings that whisper luxury—and then there are those that breathe it in.
This autumn, our team at Flower & Twine had the honor of designing a wedding at Shepherd’s Run, a historic Rhode Island estate that feels plucked from another world. Nestled within its stone-walled gardens, the ceremony unfolded beneath a canopy of late-season light, where huckleberry, foraged vines, and golden foliage framed the couple in nature’s own architecture.
A Celebration Rooted in Nature
The design vision for this wedding began not in a market, but on a morning walk.
We foraged grasses, berries, seed pods, and textural greens from local Connecticut fields, pairing them with blooms sourced from our favorite regional farms. The palette danced in shades of burnt sienna, ochre, plum, and soft blush, echoing the warmth of the season.
Each stem was chosen to feel as though it belonged—effortlessly gathered, yet artfully composed—a balance that defines Flower & Twine’s design philosophy: elevated, uncontrived, and deeply connected to place.

The Ceremony: A Broken Arch in Huckleberry
At the heart of the walled garden, we built a broken floral arch that surrounded the couple in a halo of huckleberry branches, foraged vines, and autumn blooms.
The asymmetry created a feeling of movement—as if the garden itself leaned in to listen. Soft amaranth draped like ribbon, garden roses and local dahlias nestled among copper leaves, and fruiting branches added quiet abundance.
When the wind moved through the arch, it whispered through the leaves—a reminder that beauty is most powerful when it feels alive.
The Reception: A Whimsical Head Table Laced with Fruit & Florals
Inside the reception tent, the head table became a living still life—a painter’s table of autumn.
We wove pomegranates, pears, figs, and taper candles among the florals, creating a romantic composition that blurred the line between garden and feast. Rich velvet linens deepened the tones, while scattered votives made each petal shimmer in candlelight.
Every element was designed to feel intimate and tactile—flowers close enough to touch, scenting the air with notes of clove and late roses. Guests lingered long after dessert, surrounded by the glow of the harvest season.

A Celebration of Local & Sustainable Design
As a Connecticut-based florist, we take pride in using local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible. For this wedding, over 80% of the florals were grown in New England—from huckleberry and foraged greens to heirloom roses and farm dahlias.
By working with what’s available in nature, we create designs that feel of the moment—never forced, always true.
This approach not only reduces waste, but also tells a richer story of time and place.
Every petal carries a little bit of New England in it.
The Essence of Autumn Romance
This wedding at Shepherd’s Run was more than a design project—it was a love letter to autumn.
A celebration of local craft, natural abundance, and timeless romance, woven together with Flower & Twine’s signature touch.
As the candles burned low and the night settled over the garden, the broken arch stood silhouetted in moonlight—a living sculpture of love and impermanence.
